Terms of use
Last updated October 31, 2026.
steamdata.dev is a free site that records how many people are playing Steam games. By using the site or its API at api.steamdata.dev, you agree to these terms.
The data
Player counts come from the Steam Web API, and game details from Steam's store pages. They're recorded as they're reported, and can be missing, late or wrong: Steam can report a count incorrectly, a reading can fail, and the figures worked out from them (changes, peaks, tags) are only as good as the counts behind them. About the data explains how each one is made. Don't rely on them for anything where a mistake would cost you.
Using the site
You may browse the site, and quote or cite individual figures from it, with a link back to steamdata.dev. Collecting its figures in bulk, such as by scraping its pages, is covered by the API terms below, as if it were done through the API.
API terms
The JSON API at api.steamdata.dev is free and needs no key. You may use it in personal, educational and research projects, and in sites, apps and tools that are free to use, including ones that earn money from ads. By using it, you agree to the following.
No selling or paid use. You may not sell, resell, license or rent the API's data, in whole or in part, as it comes or reworked, combined with other data or turned into charts or rankings. You may not use it in, or to power, anything you charge for. That includes paid Steam or game analytics services (a subscription to a dashboard of player counts or market data, say), paid apps, paid APIs or data feeds, and reports or research sold to clients. It applies even when the data is only part of what you charge for, or is shown only to paying users. Showing ads beside the data is fine, as long as anyone can see it without paying.
Marked data. To trace how its data is used, the API may include a small number of slightly altered values among the real ones, such as a player count changed by a small amount. They're there to identify copies of the data, and can differ from what Steam reported. Don't try to find, remove or correct them, or to strip anything else that identifies where the data came from.
Fair use of the service. The API allows 20 requests every 10 seconds from each IP address. Don't try to get around that limit, for example by spreading requests across addresses, and don't overload or disrupt the API or the site, or try to reach parts of them that aren't public.
No guarantees. The API's data comes with no promise that it's accurate, complete, current or consistent, and the API may be slow, unavailable, changed or shut down at any time without notice, including its endpoints and the shape of its responses. steamdata.dev and the person who runs it accept no liability for any loss or damage from using the API or its data, from errors or marked values in it, or from it being unavailable or changed.
Ending access. Use that breaks these terms, or that looks like it does, may be slowed or blocked without notice, and the permission to use the API ends with it.
Steam and the games
steamdata.dev is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Valve Corporation. Steam and the Steam logo are trademarks of Valve. Game names, artwork and store text belong to their developers and publishers, and are shown here only to identify the games.
No warranty
The site and the API are provided as they are, free of charge, with no warranty of any kind: not that they'll be available, accurate, complete or fit for any purpose. They may change, pause or stop at any time, with or without notice.
Limit of liability
As far as the law allows, steamdata.dev and the person who runs it aren't liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of the site, the API or the figures, or from not being able to use them.
Changes to these terms
These terms may be updated from time to time; the date at the top says when they last changed. Using the site after a change means you accept the new terms. The Privacy policy explains what the site stores about you.
